April 1, 2006Hi to everyone..

We’ve been nominated for 3 categories in the Awit awards again! Marrakech for best world/alternative recording, Somewhere in the night for best jazz recording and Where do we begin for best music video! Keep your fingers crossed, hope we get lucky again this time!
Gigs are finally coming in, but as of yet there are no totally firm dates, but be sure to keep an eye out, here and on the website (when it’s done) for the gig schedule. SO far it looks like we’ll be playing Spain on May 18th qnd 19th, Club 606 on May 29th and possibly the Birmingham jazz festival in July.. I’ll keep you updated.. And thanks for all the messages!

More london news!
RIGHT…. Now I’ve sorted that out! First of all, thanks to everyone who has been posting messages and listening to the album! Your support is always appreciated. Just wondering if there have been any England dwellers visiting this blog? If so post a message and let me know so that I can keep you all updated on UK dates. We do however, have some tentative bookings for Spain and France in May which is all very exciting! I’ll post those once I know what’s happening. I’ve been rehearsing and collaborating with a band now led by a trumpeter called John Hoare, snd they are a fantastic bunch of musicians. We’re also writing together and creating new material for the second album. For all those who prefer the original songs, you’ll be glad to hear that there will be more of those on the second album! There’s a new sound emerging, and so far it has been really fun and a great learning experince working with new musicians. I’m missing all our gigs back in Manila but not to fear, we may be having a Christmas show in Teatrino (Greenhills) in December. I have an audition on April 20th for a postgrad jazz studies course, so wish me luck! Hope I can pass, there’s so much I want to learn. Anyway that’s all for now, thanks again for all the messages, and hope to see more soon! Pass on the word and thanks for your support! Mishka
hey!
March 2, 2006Hey everyone!
Greetings from grey london!
All is going well, we finally found a place! A spacious two bedroom flat
with nice living/eating area kitchen and small patio out the back for when
the summer finall rols around. Just finishing the last bits of paperwork and
payment before we move in on wednesday. We should have internet a week after
that so I’ll be able to write more often..
Musically, things are looking very exciting, but will definitely be hard
work. Had a meeting at Candid yesterday with the leader of the band I’ll be
playing with and he’s a nice guy, and his band are good, I’ve jammed with
them before. So after we’ve moved it’s time to knuckle down and rehearse!
We’ve got dates line up from April onwards. We’ll be playing in Spain (woo hoo!)
and France in May which is exciting but we’ll do
some local dates before that so the the band can gel..
Still waiting for word from the music school I applied to for the part time
diploma course.. I was told to call up the other day to speak to someone
about my application but no reply when I called. Looks hopeful though! As
soon as we’re settled I might look for a temporary part time job just to
earn some extra cash while things aren’t too busy yet. Maybe just 2 to 3
days a week only.
Aaanyway so far that’s a brief update on the news.. I hope everyone is well
and happy. Write soon! We miss you all
Lots of love, Mish and Ariz
Mishka Adams
February 16, 20062005 AWIT AWARDS ‘Best Performance by a New Female Recording Artist’ nominee,
20-year-old Mishka Adams started singing at around 13 when her mother (famed Filipino sculptor Agnes Arellano-Adams) taught her old folk songs.
Her interest in jazz came at the age of ten when she started saxophone lessons. At the age of 14 she was singing jazz standards with the school jazz trio. Mishka took to the music and styles of legendary jazz chanteuses Sarah Vaughn, Ella Fitzgerald and Billie Holiday.
After eight years of boarding school in England and finishing her ‘A’ levels at Canterbury, United Kingdom, she flew back to the Philippines to continue her studies at UP Diliman College of Music – Major in saxophone.
Mishka was introduced at a major event “Jazz in Time” presenting UK sax legend Courtney Pine O.B.E. and Candid’s prime guitarist Cameron Pierre. Her impeccable rendition of Billie Holiday’s signature song ‘God Bless the Child’, earned her the admiration of the audience.
Candid Philippines asked for her demo, which was immediately submitted to Nieves Pascua-Bates. Her ‘video folio’ (courtesy of the British Council) was also sent to the UK for the final approval of Candid-UK CEO Alan Bates. In barely two weeks, the independent label signed the young artist, extending a multi-record deal which puts Mishka Adams alongside other world renowned jazz artists like American Jazz Diva Stacey Kent, English saxophonist Jim Tomlinson and singer Jamie Cullum.
AWIT AWARDS, the local equivalent of Grammy, also bestowed the young jazz chanteuse 2 more nominations including Best Album Package and Best Jazz Recording for her original ‘War of the Skies’ and ‘Mama’s Garden’.
